QUOTE OF THE NOW

"Our life evokes our character. You find out more about yourself as you go on. That's why it's good to be able to put yourself in situations that will evoke your higher nature rather than your lower. 'Lead us not into temptation.'" Joseph Campbell

Dancing a little smidgeon

Hey! My Wed post posted wrong! Here it is:

Ms Brownlow has sent a love song, to help me fill the 365. Love song suggestions always welcome. :-)

_____ NOW HERE'S THURSDAY____

Ms Brownlow has another song for the 365 Love Songs challenge. Though she says it's more of a sex song. But I think we can include it, because of my fave relationships expert, Dr Susan Johnson. She says when you learn the tango you have to be "very present, very tuned in, very responsive," and it's the same for a committed romantic relationship--the goal of the kind of therapy she developed.

Ms Brownlow's recommendation!

And since we're on tango, I love the one at the beginning of the Evita movie (3:10). I'm not comparing Peron's death to 9-1, but the scene beautifully embodies the sense of national mourning when something awful happens. Isn't this how you felt when those little kindergarteners were killed? shniffs

...And this is how we feel when something great happens! Doing the--wah wah--pigeon! (Top comment on youtube: "That moment when Bert has better dance moves than you do.")

TV and Sugar

The Mystery of the Broken Needle has been solved. I think the plate got knocked slightly back a little when the machine fell over in the car. I practiced some stitches today. That's all I can handle in a day.

In writing news... I'm not. I think about my story every day, or do some research, but haven't hit the keys yet.

The depressions haven't been too bad lately, but I still find myself unable to do without TV and sugar. I even watched the first four episodes of The Carrie Diaries. And I've been staying up too late.

I haven't gained any weight, cause I'm on my feet 8 hours a day, 5 days/week. Which so far is balancing off all the sweets I'm eating. But all that sugar just isn't healthy--not mentally or physically.

I suspect the only way I might be able to dial it down is if I go back to my veganism. It's been about a year now, that I've been eating vegetarian--eating eggs and dairy again. There's only been so much I've felt capable of handling. But a little wee bitsy part of my brain is tugging in that direction again. Morally I definitely want to go back, and I'm pretty sure I will. Just not sure when.

In other le news, been rewatching Psych episodes, and they've got a promo right now using Janet Jackson's "Nasty Boys." So let's have her for our love song of the day, shall we?

A car's balanced diet: Oil, gas, water, and loud music

Have I told you about Flaky yet? My new-old 2001 Sunfire Pontiac? My parents helped me find and adopt her a couple weeks ago. One of the great musical joys of life is playing music while driving. You know... how like you take a detour on the way home cause you're listening to a great song?

Her name was Snowflake, so I call her Flakey (since I am.) I've been burning her CD's because... the car... she must be fed.

Fed music.

In related news, I'm living with my parents, I have a car, and am having long conversations on the phone with Fernando. I have apparently time traveled to 1993.

For Sunday and Monday's love songs, here are two from Flakey's playlists:

Prince - Nothing Compares 2 U... The Beautiful Ones... How Come You Don't Call Me ...he pens great heartbreak songs. This one's from 1999.

You think you're special? Well so do I
Why do special women make me cry?

Nicki Minaj's - My fave lines are "And for your lovin' imma die hard like Bruce Willis" and "S on my chest cause I am ready to save him." (But if Nicki had listened a little harder in class she'd be alive by the end. #hotforteacher) Flakey loves this one cause the bass line outsings the other cars. (She longs to be that annoying car at the traffic light whose music drowns out your conversation, but she'll have to wait til summer.)
